FAQ

There are many companies that have not gone through the task of buying a locomotive. Hopefully this can help answer some of your questions.

There are several pros and cons for either choice. Buying gives you ownership but also requires large payouts which you could have used for working capital. When leasing you do not have ownership but have support and the flexibility to trade equipment as business dictates.

Generally, an “as is” used serviceable low horsepower EMD locomotive would be in the range of $90,000-$140,000. Higher horsepower (2000 h.p.+) root blower engines would be in the neighborhood of $175,000+. Of course this would depend on model and condition.

Yes. There is some equipment ECL would offer financing which would be subject to customer’s credit strength and management approval.

ECL usually has serviceable locomotives that are immediately available. However, if a customer is looking for a particular work scope or would need a unit rebuilt, lead time could take between 4-6 months depending on work scope.

In most cases locomotives are sold “as is” and does not come with a warranty. If we are rebuilding an engine we do offer a warranty.

ECL has a long reputation of integrity, honesty and transparency. Because of this and our strong work ethic the majority of our business is from repeat customers or referrals.
